The fireplace is faced with rocks native to Big Bear. That practice is no longer permitted, so no more of them will be built.

The room around it
High ceilings, a Lovesac beanbag, and a shelf of books and games. A sliding door opens straight onto the deck, so the room runs out to the fire pit and the yard.
The sofa bed in here is the fifth sleeping spot.
Heat
Heat does not depend on the fireplace. The cabin has heating, and a Mitsubishi mini split in each bedroom runs heat or air conditioning by remote.
